New playground equipment has been ordered and is planned to be installed during the July School Holidays.  This project is a joint initiative between Forrest Primary School and Forrest P&C and is funded by the P&C.

The new playground will have

  • 2 smaller pieces (roman monkey bars and a hang-and-glide)
  • 3 brand new cricket nets with built in stumps
  • 3 bench seats
  • 4 table and bench seats

A huge thank you to the Playground committee for making this happen.

2014 Forrest Parent Survey

The Forrest Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) aims to be an active and effective parent body within Forrest Primary School. It meets regularly and is crucial in supporting the school financially and socially via a variety of functions throughout the year, including the major fundraising event, the annual Forrest Primary Trivia Night.

The Forrest P&C is responsible for the provision of services to the school community, via Forrest Children’s Services, including:
• before and after school care;
• after school activities;
• vacation care;
• the uniform shop; and
• the canteen.

Any money raised from these functions and services are contributed back to the school community either via a financial donation to the school or through the purchase of resources such as the sand pit in the junior school area. Further the P&C also is a forum to discuss issues more broadly related to the school, such as facilities, resources or information sessions for the school community.

We are seeking your views on a range of issues so that the P&C can continue to provide appropriate support to the school during the coming year.  Responses are used to shape the P&C Strategic Plan and therefore the direction for P&C efforts for the next 12 months.

Parent engagement is very important, so the class that provides the greatest percentage of responses from parents will receive a free Pizza party for lunch provided by the P&C.

The survey will close on Friday 18 April.

Please take a moment to complete the survey which can be found at the following website https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2014ForrestPandCSurvey

2014 APRIL VAC CARE PROGRAM (1)

As with previous programs all children enrolled at primary school are welcome to attend so we welcome families from other schools. Please pass it on to family, friends and work colleagues.

This holidays we have two exciting programs planned.

Week 1 – Who am I? and Redesigning our outdoor space. Children will have the opportunity to work with a variety of mediums as they work on projects within these topics. We are really going to be working with children to facilitate their ideas.

Week 2 – Technology through the ages – following the success of a program at Afters a few terms ago we are going to explore and learn about how technology has changed over the last few decades. Children will get to play games from the different decades.

Through both weeks of the program we will also explore the local community – we will be considering areas within approx. a 2km radius but there will be map available shortly. This will give us the chance to choose on the day if we want to go out and about and explore or go to the shops etc. There will be no need for children to have spending money.

Carl and Kylie will be directing throughout the program.

Hope to hear from you soon and please remember that enrolments close Friday 4th April. After this date we may be able to take you booking but a $25 surcharge per booking will apply.

Working with Vulnerable People accreditation

Information for volunteers – Draft – 5 September 2013

The ACT Government, through the Office of Regulatory Service, is in the process of implementing the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011.  This means that any visitors or volunteers at the school may need to be registered under the Act.  The Education and Training Directorate has recently released a draft information paper on the issue which is available from the Forrest P&C Association website in the above link.

Specifically this means that before 8 November 2013 all school volunteers and visitors who spend any part of 7 days within a 12 month period must apply for registration under this Act.  While there are some exemptions as outlined in the above paper, ultimately it is likely to be the frequency of the volunteering that will determine if registration is required.  If a person is working in a volunteer capacity at a school, the registration is free of charge.

Here is a link to the application form that is required http://www.ors.act.gov.au/publication/view/1985

To support school volunteers in submitting their registration, there will morning held at the school on Monday 28 October from 9 until 11am and from 3 until 4pm where volunteers can get assistance in completing the application form, get photos taken and identification certified if they wish to submit their application via mail.  If volunteers wish to submit their applications directly to the Office of Regulatory Services, photos will be taken on site at the Fyshwick Shopfront on Canberra Ave
